Cynthia Chatman is a visual artist, filmmaker, writer, and arts educator whose creative life has never belonged to a single form. Her paintings, known for vivid urban landscapes and later expanded through mixed-media collage, find energy, character, and unexpected beauty in the urban environment and the people who move through it. Her films, including  The Couch Surfer and Sandra, use story, humor, and tension to explore human relationships, while her fiction allows her to enter those lives more deeply through language.

Although painting, film, and fiction are distinct vehicles of expression, they grow from the same impulse: to observe closely, imagine freely, and create something another person can recognize, feel, or carry into life. Cynthia believes that the act of creating is inherently meaningful and intrinsically rewarding—not reserved for a gifted few, but accessible to anyone willing to engage in the creative process. As an artist, educator, and facilitator, she creates both work and opportunities that invite people to look again, think differently, and discover their own capacity for expression.
